Scenarios

There are a lot of possible use of the VoIP technology, given, for example, the telephone network already established, or the number of VoIP client communicating at the same time, or the link needed for the connection to Internet.

The following picture shows a general scenario for the use of VoIP systems.

For instance a VoIP system can be used alone or integrated with traditional telephone equipments, by means of hardware IP phone or software IP phone (Softphone). Some of the possible architectures are:

Example 1 - VoIP technology used exclusively for the exchanging of calls among different premises of the same enterprise.

Example 2 - VoIP technology merged with a traditional telephone system.

Example 3 - VoIP-only technology for the telephone network
