Equars focuses on wireless networking technologies (IEEE 802.11) and the development of innovative services for IP telephony, aiming in particular to integrate the best of the two technologies.
Equars wishes to develop a new vision in the use of wireless networks, a vision more focused on security, monitoring of data infrastructures and on access control, using network security systems and AAA systems (Authentication, Authorisation, Accounting). In such way systems wireless networks can be viewed as equivalent to wired networks, giving a powerful thrust to development of networking, thanks to factors like the possibility to bring Internet access on open spaces, the cheapness and the less perturbation needed (as in historical buildings for example).
The same thrust comes from VoIP. After the first years of "telephony inside the PC", the VoIP technology is now quite mature, reaching the age of "telephony over LAN". The vision is now to bring the network "inside" the telephone, offering services like access to information or entertainment sources, full merging with IT enterprise systems, toll bypass.
The merging of secure access controlled wireless networks and the voice over data networks gives birth to the voice over wi-fi model (VoWiFi). It is a challenging technology that can potentially exploit the revolutionary success of GSM networks.
